Negative equity in homes across the United States is holding back the housing market and limiting real estate inventory, the Zillow Group reported March 9, 2016, but data show the percentage of homes in the Boston area underwater was only about half the national average.

Boston has happy home buyers, while Las Vegas lacks reliable residents, according to a new study by WalletHub, a consumer finance website. The study looked at how the housing recovery affected consumers across the country. Inventory.
It's the word being thrown around quite a bit whenever anyone in the Boston area is talking about or writing about the real estate market. It's usually coupled with words like "tight," "scarce" and "low." It's the reason for the many multiple-offer situations and rising home prices over the last two years.
