Located in Norfolk County, Walpole, Massachusetts is an intimate town with a mix of suburban and rural areas. It is conveniently situated approximately 18 miles southwest of Boston and 25 miles northeast of Providence, Rhode Island.

First settled in 1659, Walpole was originally a part of Dedham, Massachusetts until it was officially incorporated in 1724. It was named after Sir Robert Walpole, who was generally regarded as the first prime minister of Great Britain. Its growth began after the Revolutionary War and skyrocketed after the Industrial Revolution. Today, Walpole is home to approximately 24,000 residents, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.

Walpole, MA Home Sales Decline Nearly 46% in April 2014

While the number of pending single-family home sales in April stayed steady at 31 from 2013 to 2014, the number of closed sales in Walpole, Massachusetts took a 45.8 percent dip. According to data compiled by the Massachusetts Association of Realtors, only 13 sales were closed in April 2014, compared to 24 in April 2013. 

Through the first four months of 2014, there was a 7.5 increase in pending sales relative to that same period in 2013. Meanwhile, closed sales went down from 54 to 41, a 24.1 percent decrease. 

As sales fell, median home prices rose. The median price for a single-family property in April was $420,000, up from $412,500 in April of last year. Walpole, MA single-family home prices went up 13.5 percent during the first four months of the year compared to that same period in 2013. Through April 2014, the median price of a single-family property was $440,000. Through the first four months of 2013, the median price of a single-family home was $387,500.

Walpole, MA Median Home Prices Increase 11% Through November 2013

From January through November 2013, the price of single-family homes and condominiums in Walpole, Massachusetts increased compared to the same 11-month period in 2012, according to data compiled by the Massachusetts Association of Realtors (MAR).

Bucking Statewide Trend, Walpole, MA Home Prices Decline April 2013

While the median price of a single-family home increased 10.5 percent statewide in April 2013 Walpole, Massachusetts saw its median price for a single-family home decline 20.4 percent, according to data from the Massachusetts Association of Realtors (MAR).

The median price of a single-family home in Walpole, MA stood at $410,000 in April 2013, down from $515,000 in April 2012. During the first four months of 2013, the median price of a single-family home declined 14.4 percent, from $450,000 in 2012 to $385,000.
