Several first-time home buyer programs require borrowers obtain a home-buying certificate in order to qualify for the loan program. MassHousing requires borrowers to participate in a home buyer class and obtain a certificate of completion in order to buy a home with one of its mortgages.
BLUE, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, is offering a two-day class, Home Buying 101, in Reading, MA on Saturday, March 7, 2015 and Sunday March 8, 2015 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Participants who attend both days will receive a home buyer certificate required for MassHousing Mortgage loans.
Rich Rosa, co-founder and co-owner of Buyers Brokers Only, LLC, will be the instructor on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Besides being an experienced and full-time exclusive buyer agent, Rich has been a licensed lawyer from nearly 20 years. Rich writes for Boston.com's Boston Home Buyer Education blog, and he is on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Association of Buyer Agents. Vince Bertrand, a senior mortgage loan officer with Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation in Boston, has more than 17 years of experience in the banking industry and will instruct on Sunday, March 8, 2015.
A number of important home-buying topics will be covered.
• What exactly are first-time home buyer programs?
• What's the difference between an offer and purchase and sale agreement?
• What should home buyers look for at showings?
• Is a deposit the same as a down payment?
• How much of a down payment is needed to buy a home?
• What do home buyers need to know about the closing?
Whether someone needs a home-buying certificate or not, participants in the Home Buying 101 class will receive expert advice that will make them a better, more-informed Massachusetts home buyer.
